Father Thaddeus Rettger, O.S.B., pastor of Saint Bernard Parish in Hastings, has been working with many volunteers and community leaders to build a Food Bank distribution center in Hastings. (Food had been distributed through another site in nearby Carrolltown prior to this). The Society of Saint Vincent de Paul Food Bank is in a new metal building that accommodates a truck, refrigeration equipment, sorting and packaging areas and of course a distribution area. This morning, volunteers gathered to distribution their regulation food items as well as turkeys donated by a nearby Giant Eagle and other items to help families have a better Thanksgiving. Father Thaddeus notes that one in four families in the area qualifies for the distribution. Thanks to Father Thaddeus and all of the volunteers who are making a better Thanksgiving for many people. The parking lot was full and more than 70 families served in the first hour this morning.
